Description

How the suction manifold is used

The suction manifold, also called suction hood, is used to distribute the main air flow from the ducting of a woodworking machine to the different extraction points installed by the manufacturer of this machine. There may be multiple extraction points of varying diameters, as is the case with wide belt sanders, for example. The tooling configuration and operating mode of this machine used to sand panels do not always permit connection of the extraction points with rigid suction pipes, so that flexible suction hoses must be used.

This suction manifold, or suction hood, has a 5 mm rim at the upper end and smooth edges at the lower suction ports. The 5 mm edge enables you to connect it to the ducting network of your industrial sawdust collection system using our clamps. The lower suction outlets, whose diameter you will have specified beforehand on our website, have smooth edges, to which you can attach a flexible hose of the appropriate length and corresponding diameter. We recommend using the clamps for flexible PU hoses.

Quality standards for our suction manifolds

The quality of an industrial dust extraction system network depends primarily on the technical and aeraulics expertise of its designer, but also on the selection and quality of the components used to implement it.

The suction manifold selected for use in the dust extraction system of your carpentry/joinery shop must meet various quality criteria:

  • Types of steel: type DX51 D cold-rolled, hot-dipped galvanized steel, with a galvanized zinc coating with a weight of 275 g/m²; the thickness tolerance corresponds to the standard NEN-EN 10143. This steel offers good bending and thermal expansion properties as well as good corrosion resistance. Its surface is smooth, glossy and powdered, which prevents wood chips and sawdust from sticking to it.
  • Leak tightness: When manufacturing our suction manifolds, we limit the number of welding joints to a minimum. We prefer to bend and roll the galvanized sheet metal to form a cone that will ensure maximum air flow when it passes through. When various parts are used to create an assembly, we prefer spot welding followed by the application of mastic to smooth out and reduce any unevenness. Leak tightness is then ensured.
  • Pressure loss: the pressure loss generated by the suction manifold is certainly difficult to evaluate. We have done our best to reduce it as much as possible by using galvanized steel of excellent quality, and by ensuring that the production of our suction manifold will be as "aeraulic" as possible. Nevertheless, we estimate it at 100 Pa.
