Whatever the type of wood worked, the dust produced is classified as carcinogenic. They are subject to a restrictive 8-hour regulatory occupational exposure limit value of 1 mg/m3.

These dusts and chips are likely to contribute to the development of a fire and are explosive when suspended in the air. Given these risks, wood dust is considered ATEX (ATmosphères EXplosives) and will therefore be subject to special treatment.
